She noted that our school selected the first group of students to take part in the Sino-US Joint Program in September, 2015, and started a particular teaching plan of “double version” in October of the same year. As the most important capability for the students, the English competence played a key in TOEFL test and overseas studies. Thus, our students were required to study three courses, namely: intensive reading, extensive reading and professional reading. Meanwhile, some excellent teachers from School of Mathematics, School of Life Sciences, School of Foreign Languages, and School of Arts were invited to teach required courses. Prof. Xie Xiaoxia will be exchanged to U.S. for further research and studies and the U.S. side will send teachers to improve our language competence as well. In order to solve the difficulties in life and study, our school showed great concern and support.
Afterward, Mr. Porter, Vice President of Troy University, expressed his gratitude to the concern and efforts showed by the School of Communication to Sino-US 1+2+1 experimental class and meanwhile Troy University will also give great support in overseas students. They also look forward to further cooperation and exchange with Yunnan Normal University. The students communicated with Mr. Porter about some related problems they were concerned about. After the discussion, Xiong Yongxiang, Dean of School of Communication, signed the proposals and agreements of Sino-US Joint Education Program of Journalism (1+2+1) (2015 and 2016 version) with Mr. Porter and then exchanged the gifts.
Huang Ying, Head of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department in Yunnan Normal University, represented that the projects was a key to expand the international horizon for our university and made a great contribution to international cooperation and exchange in Yunnan. Kuang Jin, Deputy Director of Academic Office, spoke highly of the program jointly conducted by our university and Troy University. She also remarked that the School of Communication’s cultivation is flexible and innovative in thoughts and conception and possesses a international horizon on talents cultivation and she also expected students to make further progress under the new system and cherish the opportunities to make their dreams come true. The new talents cultivation model will inevitably meet various problems and difficulties in practice, and thus, Yunnan Normal University should communicate with Troy University in time and solve the problems in a proper way. It was expected that the two sides will further develop cooperation in more areas and fields.
